Itinerary
Day 1 – Athens
Welcome to Athens! You will be met on arrival and transferred to your hotel in Athens. Time at leisure to discover Athens! Redolent with history and mythology, Athens is a vibrant city, enlivened by bustling outdoor cafes, pedestrian streets that wind through the city’s ancient sites and its fair share of urban eccentrics, a city full of contrasts.

Day 2 – Athens
This morning enjoy a city tour of Athens. On this guided tour you will visit the awe inspiring Acropolis of Athens, the Acropolis museum and a panoramic sightseeing tour of the Athenian highlights. Your guide will reveal to you the secrets of the Acropolis & the Parthenon, the Temple of Zeus, Hadrian’s Arch and the Kallimarmaro Stadium, built of marble for the first modern Olympic Games in 1896. Experience the ancient wonders visiting the birthplace of democracy, twist and turn through the Plaka (Athens old quarter) narrow streets, cafes and shops full of history and character.
Free time in the afternoon to explore Athens.

Day 3 – Athens to Nafplio
Set off from Athens and drive to the Corinth Canal and see this incredible feat of engineering. The canal that divides mainland Greece from the Peloponnese peninsula. In Mycenae, a mighty kingdom of ancient Greece, see the Beehive Tombs, the Treasury of Atreus, the Lion Gate and the remains of Agamemnon’s Royal Palace. Travel further to the Sanctuary of Aesculapius- the benevolent God of Medicine and visit the amphitheatre, probably the largest of ancient Greece with world renowned acoustics.

Day 4 – Nafplio to Olympia
In the morning enjoy the beautiful town of Nafplion. The city itself is a pleasure to walk around with nice views to the waterfront and some lovely neoclassical buildings which manage to maintain the grand feel of this city. Later in the afternoon set off from Nafplion to Olympia. After a spectacular drive through the mountains of Arcadia to Olympia, arrival at Olympia in the afternoon. Check in to your hotel and free time to explore the small village Olympia.

Day 5 – Olympia to Delphi
In the morning visit the ancient Olympic stadium (where the ancient Olympic games where held), the Temples of Zeus king of the Gods and Hera’s temple – wife of Zeus, goddess of marriage. Olympia is one of the most important sites of antiquity and one of the most interesting today. The village itself is not remarkable but the surroundings are stunning. Not only is the amazing site of ancient Olympia lovely to walk though and admire but also the nature surrounding is of exquisite beauty. After visiting the site your guided tour continues to the beautiful museum of Olympia (adjacent to the site). Concluding the sightseeing, drive north to Patras, cross the Gulf of Corinth on the new and most impressive suspension bridge to mainland Greece. Then on to Delphi. Situated on the slopes of Mount Parnassus to see the home of the legendary oracle the most revered site of ancient Greece and considered to be the navel of the world. The oracle was consulted by all the ancient Greeks to predict future events ie. the outcome of battles and the course of history.

Day 6 – Delphi to Kalambaka
Spend your morning walking along the Sacred Way lined by the treasuries of the ancient city states to the Temple of Apollo dating back to the 4th century B.C. And then climbing even higher on to the ancient stadium, here every four years athletes competed in the Pythian Games also a precursor of the modern Olympic Games. The site of Delphi and the adjacent museum are spectacular. It is the combination of history, culture and setting which make this one of the most impressive ancient sites in Greece. A picturesque early afternoon drive brings you to Thermopylae, famous for the heroic defence by Leonidas and his three hundred courageous Spartans against the invading Persians. After seeing the memorial, continue the drive cross the fertile Thessaly region to Kalambaka.

Day 7 – Kalambaka to Athens
Discover Meteora, one of the eastern Orthodox churches’ most important monastic complexes and a UNESCO world heritage site. The name [Meteora] was derived from a Greek contraction meaning “suspended in the air.” Rising high above the Thessalian plain, the sandstone megaliths on which the monasteries were built average 1,000 feet in height, with several reaching up to 1,800 feet. The rock masses were formed some 60 million years ago, their distinctive and varied shapes sculpted over time by earthquakes, rain, and wind. Mystical monasteries perch on enormous sandstone rocks rising vertically to more than three hundred meters, they watch over the town and plain below. Enjoy a guided tour of the monasteries and the amazing views to the plains of Thessalie. After your tour, a pleasant drive brings you back to Athens in the early evening.

Day 8 – Athens
As your Wonders of Greece tour ends, say farewell to the vibrant city of Athens. Enjoy a nice breakfast at the hotel. Time at leisure until your flight. Depending on the time of you flight we shall arrange a transfer for you to the Athens airport.
